FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Are LGD dogs house pets?

No. They are livestock guardian dogs. While affectionate with their owners, they are bred to live and work outdoors with livestock.

Do they bark?

Yes. Barking is part of their deterrence strategy. Guardians bark to warn predators and establish territorial boundaries.

How much space do they need?

They require secure fencing and enough room to patrol. Small suburban yards without livestock are not appropriate environments.

At what age can puppies go home?

Puppies typically leave between 8–12 weeks, depending on development and training level selected.

Do they require training?

Yes. Instinct exists, but guidance shapes reliability. We offer structured training programs to strengthen livestock bonding and boundary awareness.

Are they aggressive?

Properly raised livestock guardians are stable and discerning. They are protective but not indiscriminately aggressive. Social stability is a breeding priority.

Do they roam?

They can if fencing and boundary conditioning are inadequate. Secure fencing is required.

How long until they are fully reliable?

Most livestock guardian dogs mature between 18–24 months. Patience and consistency are necessary.

What livestock do they guard?

Goats, sheep, poultry, cattle, and other farm animals. Early exposure improves success.

Do you screen buyers?

Yes. These are working dogs. We reserve the right to decline placement if the environment is not suitable.

Do you offer ongoing support?

Yes. Guidance is available after placement to help ensure long-term success.
